About Dimitrios Asithianakis
My name is Dimitrios Asithianakis (my friends call me Dimitris). I was born in Germany in 1965 to Greek immigrant parents. In 1971 we returned to Greece. I grew up in Athens where I finished public school and I studied photography, video and new technologies at Focus School of Art Photography, and then I did postgraduate studies in photography as a visual language at Middlesex University of London. I have two children, Odysseus who was born in 1998 and Electra who was born in 2000.

I have been an amateur photographer from my first day in high school. I have been a professional photographer since 1993. I have been teaching photography since 1997 when I started teaching darkroom, structure of photographic materials, photography chemistry and photographic techniques at the Focus School of Art Photography, until today, where I teach my own online and offline photography seminars. My lessons are about the Photography technique, Digital Photography, History of Photography, Travel Photography, Architectural Photography, Panoramic Photography and Art Photography in general. Since 2001 when I created my first website for photography, I have been dealing with internet marketing and the creation, renewal and maintenance of over 40 online travel guides for various destinations in Greece (mainly the Greek islands). Before that I have done over 45 different jobs to make a living.
My first camera was the family-owned Agfa Optima II, which I exclusively managed in 1977 as soon as I was in high school. In 1987 I bought a Zenith 12XP and in 1991 a Nikon FM2. In between I had some Pentax and Kiev models and a Practica. In 2001 I got my first digital camera a Sony Cyber shot 2MP and in 2011 my first Dslr a Nikon D7000, while in 2013 my first Full Frame DSLR a Nikon D610. I have photographed all these years with cameras like Olympus, Pentax, Fuji, Minolta, Canon, Kiev, Panasonic, Leica, Practika, Contax, Rolleiflex, Lubitel, Yashica, Campo, Sinar, Hasselblad, but also with pinhole cameras made by me. In my travels from 2008 onwards I photograph mainly with Nikon DX bodies (D90, D7000, D7200,) and two full frame cameras (Nikon D610 and Nikon D750). My favorite camera is the one that has not been released yet, although the camera companies lately try and manage to make better and cheaper cameras. I especially enjoy traveling and photographing, although I enjoy all aspects of life and all the arts. I like writing and teaching.
